Repairing leaks, elaborating fruit preserves, designing buildings, designing suitcases, invigilating rooms, photographing trips, photographing shops, short-hand typing, documenting exhibitions, lecturing, acting as an extra, making furniture.

This exhibition brings together samples of works done by artists in order to make a living and/or sustain their artistic practice.

The objects and actions on display suggest a split of the social role and time in the activity of the amateur, beginner or non-fully established artist. A split that adopts as many forms as ways of working and valuing the ever ambivalent and changeable relationship between freedom/truth, personal creation/social interaction or ethics/market dynamics. Dichotomies that, on the other hand, many established authors often reflect on and express in their oeuvre; the socio-temporally regulated work as subject (Maria Eichhorn), inspiration (Jim Jarmush), limitation (Jonas Mekas), frame (Andrea Bajani), method (On Kawara) o parallel reality (Wallace Stevens), for instance, are only a few amongst many other ways of linking and/or separating work and work.

Creativity today gains prestige at the workplace and the production of content regulates leisure and personal time. Where have the spaces of creative freedom or free creativity moved to, in an artistified society that praises what Lucrecia Martel has called the vanity of being productive?
